Who is Sailor Saturn?

Of all of the Sailor Senshi in the Sailor Moon franchise, Sailor Saturn might just be the least known. Let’s get to know this interesting sailor in the post below!

The meaning of her name:

Sailor Saturn’s first name, Hotaru, means “firefly.” In Japanese culture, the small points of light are sometimes said to be the spirits of soldiers who have passed away fighting in wars.

She Had A Unique Uniform:

Unlike the uniform of other senshi, her outfit also had a crystal in place of a brooch on her bow and the trim on her gloves flared out into a point. The most noticeable details were the petal-like pieces that replace the ring-like sleeves, creating a dramatic and ethereal look. This uniform really stood out from the others but its appearance was brief; Sailor Saturn would return later in the series with a more standard-looking fuku.

She Was A Cyborg:

After her injuries, her father had to make some alterations to her body to help her survive. Along with implanting a daimon egg in her body, Professor Tomoe replaced some of her body parts with robotic substitutes in the manga and more recent anime series, effectively making her a futuristic cyborg.
